Banana Peach (52 Teas)

Wednesday is Green Tea, White Tea, Rooibos, Oolong and Tisane (Herbal) Review Day!

I’m often skeptical of tropical fruits being mixed with the more subtle flavors inherent in well devised green teas. Call me paranoyed for my favorite base blends. This blend from 52teas is well blended using real fruit pieces!

52teas ups the ante on “tea of the month” clubs. At 52 teas you get your choice of any small batch hand blended teas picked from suggestions by visitors to the site. A project of Zoomdweebies Tea Bar, 52teas is dedicated to the experiment of tea and the belief that as an industry they don’t mess with enough original flavors! I won’t review the concept of its implementation now, but I do hope to in the future.

As mentioned 52teas produces limited run blends. That means only a certain amount is made, and it’s first come first served and they do tend to run out somewhat quickly.

At once excited and leery of the idea of teas by committee, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with what I found here. I ordered a Blackberry Yerba Mate and this Banana Peach Green Tea. I’ll rview the other blend at some point in the future.

Initially I was hopful that the peach flavor would be a little more upfront. After a few steeps however I’ve found that the forefront banana flavor is as it should be. Distinct. The green tea base for this blend is lightly toned. The texture and light grassy feel of the base flavor on the palette is the only tell here.

This blend is highly aromatic.  You can very clearly smeel the bananas and just a moment later the peaches come in. Very nicely done. This is mixed with green tea, but the only way you can tell is with the flavor. I couldn’t catch much more than a hint of the green tea in the aroma.

This blend isn’t very bold. The large banana and peach pieces provide wonderful infusion of flavor but also seem to help keep down the bitterness in the brew.

I would recommend this blend to fruit lovers, green tea enthusiasts and smoothie fiends as the flavors are just wonderful.

The jury is still out on the effectiveness of teas by committee. This is only the first blend I’ve tried and reviewed here. I look forward to trying other blends by 52teas as time passes. I like the idea. Let’s see how the longer term implementation turns out!
